Sprite Labs announces Paint FX 1.0 for iOS – Precise Image Enhancement

Written by admin on June 30, 2011. Posted in Mac News

Fremont, California – Sprite Labs today is proud to announce Paint FX 1.0, the first app to let users selectively apply photo enhancements, filters, visual effects and colors to specific parts of a photo, simply by painting them with the fingers, giving users complete control of where they want those effects and enhancements in a photo and where they dont. It is also unique in allowing a combination of multiple effects in different areas of the same photo.

There are several apps in the App store which provide a wide array of photographic effects and filters, but all of them constrain the users in applying the enhancement to the full photo. Most of the photos require a fix or an enhancement to a specific part of the photo only, while needing a totally different enhancement in another part. For example, a dark area in a scene may require brightness improvement while another area with high exposure may need a contrast and a reduction in brightness.

Similarly applying a visual effect selectively on a subject instead of the full photo can bring attention to the subject. Users can even go up a notch and combine and layer different effects on the same photo creating unlimited possibilities for for creating stunning masterpieces in minutes with the simple, intuitive and natural touch interface. Check out a demo video of the app by following the video link below.

“We partnered with acclaimed usability and user interface experts and spent several months in getting each button just right, each pixel perfectly placed, and help and hints provided at each step, so that users can start having fun without scratching their heads and spend their time on creativity instead. We are really looking forward to see what users come up with, with the creative control that Paint FX provides”, says Nikita Sawant, creative director at Sprite Labs. For a quick demonstration please watch the video demo online.

With this one app, you can do so many things and many more:
* Apply precise HDR effects by controlling Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation with pinpoint accuracy
* Perfect for Tiltshift (Miniaturization) effects by adding Blur Exactly where you want it
* Completely erase backgrounds for a brilliant studio-style portrait photo
* Have fun, by giving yourself a tan or changing the color of your hair and clothes
* Artistic filters like Sketch, Hue, Cartoonize, and Threshold easily turn your photos into professional looking pieces
* A complete paint brush set is included to really manipulate your photos – The options are endless

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.0 or later
* 17.0 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Paint FX 1.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category.

Virtual Tags Introduces Augmented Reality Avatars in Version 2

Written by admin on June 30, 2011. Posted in Mac News

Rome, Italy – iOS app developer Fabrizio Bartolomucci today is pleased to announce version 2.0 of his Augmented Reality app, Virtual Tags incorporating a number of new social networking features. Similar to other geotagging apps, Virtual Tags allows users to create messages, known as clouds, based on their physical location which are then shared with other Virtual Tag users. These geotags are displayed on the screen of their iPhone Touch or iPhone or iPad as an overlay of the user’s physical environment, giving a real-time view of previous visitors to that location.

Said lead developer Dr. Fabrizio Bartolomucci, ‘Virtual Tags version 2 has been redesigned to allow users to dress their own ghostlike beings which inhabit the Augmented Reality view, following the users as they move. As groups of Virtual Tags users assemble together, the app display will begin to show similar clusters of ghosts blurring the line between physical and augmented realities. Karl Marx once stated that ‘a spectre is haunting Europe’ but unlike his communist vision, Virtual Tags will allow users to ‘haunt’ the world in new and fun ways.’

The introduction of Augmented Reality (AR) ghosts allows for several interesting potential scenarios for users of Virtual Tags as they are shadowed by their avatar within the app. Virtual Tags users will be able to easily identify other users of the same app as their avatars come into close proximity, providing the potential for formation of new friendships based on mutual interests. Virtual Tags version 2 will also allow for expansion of the flash mob craze into the augmented reality as app users will also be accompanied by their ghost, creating the unusual sight of two crowds, one real and one virtual.

Virtual Tags is also being used by Italian companies as a way of generating new business via social media buzz. Clouds are posted near business outlets with details of products or services, allowing Virtual Tags users to take advantage of special offers and to leave their own reviews based on their experiences. As uptake of Virtual Tags increases, more businesses worldwide are expected to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the app to raise their profile and encourage interaction with their customers.

Virtual Tags version 2 also adds support for legacy devices such as the iPod touch which do not contain a compass further boosting the app’s potential user base. New sound effects have also been added to alert users to the presence of nearby clouds and ghosts.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th Gen)
* iPad 2 Wi-Fi, and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G
* Requires iOS 4.2 or later
* 12.6 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Virtual Tags 2.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Social Networking category. To read more about Virtual Tags including a number of product reviews, and to contact the developer please visit their website.
